WHY DO YOU PLAY FOOTBALL WITH 11 PLAYERS PER TEAM?

With the creation of the English Football Association in 1870, the rules of football were regularized. One  of the issues to be discussed was the number of players that each team should have when playing a game. As  at that time the fashion sport in the British Isles was Cricket, and in this each team had 11 players, it was taken as a model for football.

It was also in the 1870s when the first equal uniforms began to appear. Until then, players played with whatever clothing they had available and distinguished themselves by wearing caps or bands placed on the chest,or from shoulder to waist. As for the dorsal numbers, although there were several previous attempts to introduce them, it was not until the 1940s that the custom of using numbers from 1 to 11 was established.

Some people believe that the history of cricket as inspiration is not true. They bet more on the fact that 10 field players can completely cover the extent of a pich, to which the figure of the goalkeeper is added to defend the goal.

In addition, curiously, many of the rules that this sport has had throughout its history have been questioned, and several of them have been changed, canceled or incorporated, but the number of players has never been a matter of debate. It has never even been considered to expand or reduce the number of players.

The truth is that today soccer is played with 11 players per team.
