We all think we know them, but do we really know them all? We will give you a list of the 17 rules that FIFA uses. Let's see how many of them you have skipped:
Soccer Rules 1: The Field of Play
The playing field will be a rectangle with a minimum length of 90 meters and a maximum length of 120 m and a width of 45 to 90 meters. In all cases the field of play must be rectangular, divided into two halves and marked with lines. These lines will belong to the areas they demarcate.
In addition, a goal area must be drawn, with two lines perpendicular to the goal line, 16.5m from the inside of each post and the lines will go 16.5m into the field of play. At the center of the rectangle a point will be scored at 11m, which will be used to place the ball when a penalty kick is taken.
Game rules 2: The ball
The balls must have specific characteristics and measures that are stated in the soccer rules :
➣It will be spherical.
➣It will be made of leather or any other suitable material.
➣It shall have a circumference of not more than 70 cm and not less than 68 cm.
➣His weight will not be more than 450g and not less than 410g at the beginning of the match.
➣It will have a pressure equivalent to 0.6-1.1 atmospheres at sea level.
Football regulation 3: The number of players
The rules of football state that the two teams playing a match must have a maximum of eleven starters. One of them will be the goalkeeper. The match will not start if one of the teams has less than seven players.
The number of substitutes and changes varies depending on the federation and the category. However, the professional regulations that allow teams to have eight substitutes and a limit of three changes are mostly followed. Changes will be made when indicated by the referee but must be previously notified. An already substituted player cannot re-enter the field of play.
Football Rules 4: The Kit
The equipment of the players and referee are also contemplated in the soccer rules .
The usual team of a player will consist of a shirt, shorts, socks, and sneakers. In the preparation of these elements, elements that constitute danger to other players cannot be used. The two teams will wear colors that differentiate them from each other and also from the referee and assistant referees. Goalkeepers are also required to use a different color.
The referee is in charge of directing the match and, according to soccer rules , must comply with the following rules:
- He will take care of the application of the rules of the game and will solve all doubtful cases. His powers will begin at the moment he whistles the kick-off and he has the power to impose sanctions.
- It will take note of incidents, exercise the functions of timing and ensure that the match has the statutory or agreed duration, adding the time lost due to incidents or any other cause.
- It has absolute power when breaches of the rules are committed, it can permanently stop, suspend or interrupt a match when it deems it necessary regardless of the causes.
- From the moment he enters the field of play, he will have the discretion to warn any player who proceeds with conduct that is inconvenient to it, and may prevent him from taking part in the game in case of recidivism.
- It will not allow strangers on the field of play during the match.
- He shall have full power to permanently expel any player guilty of violent conduct from the field without prior warning.
- It will give the signal to resume the game after every stop.
Football regulation 6: The assistant referees
Football rules stipulate that two assistant referees may be appointed who will have, subject to what the referee decides, the task of indicating: if the ball left the field of play, corner kicks, out of play, notify the changes, infractions that the referee does not see, duration of the match, goal scored and goal kicks.Football Rules 7: Duration of the match
The rules of professional football indicate that the match will last two equal times of 45 minutes each, unless otherwise agreed by mutual agreement between the referee and the two participating teams. But this may vary depending on the category and the federation.
Between each time of the game, there will be a break that should not exceed 15 minutes. And then the game will resume.
Game rules 8: kick-off
The rules of football stipulate that the start of the game, choosing fields and kick start will be drawn by a coin. The side favored by luck will have the right to choose, either its field or the kickoff. In the second half, the teams will exchange sides of the field and remove the team that did not do so in the first half.
The service from the middle of the field must take place at the beginning of the match, after having scored a goal or at the beginning of the second half of the match. It should also be done at the beginning of each overtime, if applicable.
Football regulation 9: The ball in play (or not)
The ninth of the rules of football seems very logical, the ball is in play as long as it is not marked foul and is on the field. The game is not interrupted if it bounces off a corner post or flag or if it bounces off the referee.
It will be offside if it completely crosses a touch line or goal line, and if the game is interrupted by the referee.
Soccer Rules 10: Both (or goal) scored
The rules of football say they will have scored a goal when the ball is in play, has completely crossed the goal line between the goalposts and under the crossbar, provided that the scoring team has not previously committed a breach of the Rules of Game.
The team that scores the highest number of goals will be the winner, if they score or do not score, the game ends tied. In case a winner is necessary, only three procedures are allowed: rule of goals scored as away, overtime or penalty kicks.
Game rules 11: The offside
The offside may be the one that creates the most confusion about the rules of soccer .
A player will be in an offside position if he is closer to the opposite goal line than the ball and the penultimate opponent, but will not be in the midfield. In that case, the referee must grant the opposing team an indirect free kick from the place where the offside occurred.
Football regulation 12: Fouls and mistakes
Direct free kicks:
A direct free kick will be awarded to the opposing team if a player commits one of the following offenses in a way that the referee considers to be reckless, reckless or with the use of excessive force:
➤Giving or trying to kick an opponent.
➤Tripping an opponent.
➤Jump on an opponent.
➤Violently or dangerously charging an opponent
➤Hitting or attempting to hit an opponent
➤Pushing an opponent
➤Make an entry to an opponent to gain possession of the ball by touching him before the ball
➤Deliberately touching the ball with the hands (except the goalkeeper in his penalty area)
➤Hold an opponent

A penalty shot will be charged , if a player commits one of the above ten offenses, within his own penalty area, regardless of the position of the ball and whenever it is in play.
Indirect free kicks:
An indirect free kick will be awarded to the opposing team if a goalkeeper commits one of the following above-mentioned offenses within his own penalty area:
➧It takes more than six seconds to put the ball into play, after having controlled it with your hands.
➧Touch the ball again with your hands after it has been put into play and without any other player having touched it.
➧He touches the ball with his hands after the player of his team has given it to him with his foot.
➧He touches the ball with his hands after receiving it directly from a throw-in by a teammate.
An indirect free kick will be awarded to the opposing team if a player, in the opinion of the referee:
➢Play dangerously.
➢It hinders the advance of an adversary.
➢It prevents the goalkeeper from removing the ball with his hands.
➢He commits any other infraction that has not been previously mentioned in the Rules, for which the game is interrupted to warn him or expel him.
The direct or indirect free kick will be taken from the place where the offense was committed, or in any case, according to the rules and rules of the game in this regard.
Football Rules 13: Free Kicks
According to the rules of football , free throws are divided into direct shots, which can be scored with a single contact, or if it is on its own goal, a corner kick will be scored; and indirect free kick, in which the referee must keep a raised hand and consists of two touches before the ball crosses the goal, if there is only one touch goal clearance will be awarded.

Game rules 14: Penalty

Football regulation 15: Throw-in
The rules of football say that the kick is a method of restarting the game and is awarded to the opponents of the player who last touched the ball before crossing the sideline by land or air. A goal may not be scored directly from a throw-in.
The throw-in is served with the hands, the ball is thrown from behind over the head, with both feet well placed on the line from where it left the field of play.
Football Rules 16: Goal kick
A goal kick is a way of resuming play when the ball has completely crossed the goal line, either on the ground or in the air, after it has last touched a player from the attacking team, and a goal has not been scored. goal under Rule 10.
A goal may be scored directly from a goal kick, but only against the opposing team.
Game rules 17: Corner kick
When the ball passes the goal line in its entirety by air or by ground, excluding the area between the two posts by the court owner, a corner is made.
